The Best Caffeine Tracker Apps for iPhone in 2026, Compared Honestly

Looking for the best caffeine tracker app? We compared Caffeine vs Water, HiCoffee, RECaf, Unbuzz, Caffeine Clock and Waterllama on sleep, Apple Watch and price.

The short answer

  • Best for protecting your sleep and planning before you drink: Caffeine vs Water (coming soon). It warns you before a drink that would cost you sleep, shows how much you can still have tonight, and puts caffeine and water on one screen.
  • Best branded-drink database: HiCoffee. 2,500+ branded coffee products, every Apple platform, from $6.99/year or $8.99 once.
  • Lowest-effort logging: RECaf. Learned reminders and Siri logging, $9.99/year after a 14-day trial.
  • Best for cutting back: Unbuzz. Reduction goals, 1,000+ products, free with Pro from $1.49.
  • Free and fully offline: Caffeine Clock. Absorption-aware curve and bedtime alert, no account, ads unless you pay once.
  • Hydration first: Waterllama, a water tracker that also syncs caffeine to Apple Health.

A good caffeine tracker iPhone app should do more than add up milligrams. The useful ones show how much caffeine is still active, estimate what's left at bedtime, and make logging so quick you don't give up after a week. The best caffeine tracker app for you depends on whether you care most about sleep, brand coverage, cutting back or price.

We make Caffeine vs Water, so we're biased; here's how we checked. Every competitor feature, price and rating below comes from that app's own US App Store listing (including its release notes and privacy label), checked on September 28, 2026. If a listing doesn't mention a feature, we write "not listed" rather than guess; the app may still have it. Our own app isn't out yet, so it has no ratings, and its features below are described from the app itself.

Caffeine vs Water: best for planning before you drink

Most caffeine trackers tell you what happened after you log. Caffeine vs Water is built around the moment before the drink. Picture it: it's 3:40 pm, you're in the Starbucks line, and a grande filter coffee holds about 310 mg, over three times an 8 oz home brew at 95 mg. Should you?

It asks before a drink costs you sleep

When you log a drink that would leave 50 mg or more in your system at bedtime, push you over your daily limit (400 mg by default), or carries more than 200 mg on its own, the app asks first: log anyway, log a decaf instead (for coffee drinks), or cancel. The same check runs on Apple Watch and through Siri.

"You can still have ~X mg" and your last-coffee time

The home screen shows the biggest drink you can have right now and still be under 50 mg at bedtime, capped by your daily limit. Ask Siri "Can I still have coffee in Caffeine vs Water?" and it answers. It also shows your last-coffee time: the latest a regular 95 mg coffee still fits, counting what you've already had. That time moves as you log, and you can get a reminder 30 minutes before it. Bedtime can come from your Apple Health sleep data (the median of the last 14 nights).

Plan the day, not just log it

The day planner lets you add today's drinks ahead of time (or repeat them daily) and see your bedtime caffeine before you drink anything. Planned drinks that would break your target are flagged, and optional alerts arrive with "Log it" and "Skip" buttons.

Caffeine and water on one screen

A live caffeine curve sits next to a water goal fitted to you: your weight times 33 ml/kg, plus activity and hot-weather settings you choose. Every drink's volume counts toward water, coffee included (see what counts as water intake). After a strong drink, it reminds you to pair a glass of water, as a habit.

Logging that comes to you

Reminders arrive at your usual coffee time (skipped if you've had caffeine in the last two hours), suggestions are learned from your history, and an optional alert fires when you arrive at your usual café. Each has a "Log it" button in the notification. You can pick a personal half-life preset: Typical 5.5 h, "Barely feel it" 4 h, "Hits me hard" 7.5 h, "I smoke" 3.5 h, "On the pill" 10 h, "Pregnant" 12 h, or a custom 2–15 h (why half-life varies so much).

Around that: 640+ drinks including Starbucks, Dunkin', Tim Hortons, Costa, McDonald's, energy drinks, pre-workouts and pills; unlimited custom drinks; a full Apple Watch app with complications; Home and Lock Screen widgets, a Smart Stack quick-log widget, Live Activity, Control Center controls, Siri and Shortcuts; and Apple Health sync. It needs no account, shows no ads, has no analytics or third-party SDKs, and makes no network calls. Your data stays on your iPhone and in Apple Health.

Honest limitations: it isn't launched yet, so there are no ratings or reviews. It's iPhone and Apple Watch only, with no Android, Mac or iPad-specific version. There's no iCloud sync across devices, no data export, and no caffeine taper program. Insights cover 7 days, it's English only, and HiCoffee's catalog is much bigger. Pricing hasn't been announced.

HiCoffee: best branded-drink database

HiCoffee is the most established caffeine tracker on iPhone, with a 4.8-star rating from 839 ratings, several App Store features and appearances in Apple's WWDC 2023 and 2024 keynotes. Its biggest strength is the database: more than 2,500 branded coffee products, plus a calculator for home-brewed espresso and pour-over.

It sets a caffeine limit based on your sensitivity, predicts caffeine remaining at bedtime, and since version 6 warns you when a drink you're logging may exceed your daily or bedtime limit. It can look at resting heart rate and sleep from Apple Health, and runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro and Apple Watch, with widgets, Shortcuts, iCloud sync and CSV export.

Good for: anyone who drinks branded coffee and wants every Apple platform covered. Keep in mind: water tracking lives in the developer's separate HiWater app, and the listing doesn't mention a day planner. Full comparison: HiCoffee vs Caffeine vs Water.

RECaf: best for low-effort logging

RECaf is built around removing friction: one-tap logging for your most frequent sources, Siri shortcuts, and interactive reminders that learn when you usually have your "usual" and only nudge you if you haven't logged it. It shows detailed stats, a sleep analysis from Apple Health, and can log a water entry alongside your coffee or tea. It has an Apple Watch app, costs $9.99 a year after a 14-day free trial, and holds a 4.1-star rating from 206 ratings.

Good for: people who have tried tracking before and kept forgetting. Keep in mind: the listing focuses on logging and stats rather than a bedtime cutoff. Full comparison: RECaf vs Caffeine vs Water.

Unbuzz: best for cutting back

Unbuzz is a 2026 app that has updated quickly. Its "Before You Drink" feature previews a drink from 1,000+ real products and shows how it lines up with your bedtime before you log it. It adds a personalized half-life, a caffeine budget, a Plan tab, reminders you choose (cutoff, planned drink, morning) and reduction goals with pace and progress. It's on iPhone and Apple Watch in 12 languages. The core app is free; Pro options are $1.49, $7.99 a year or $14.99 once.

Good for: chain-coffee and energy-drink drinkers, and anyone planning to taper. Keep in mind: it's too new to show a rating, and its privacy label lists email and user ID as data linked to you. Full comparison: Unbuzz vs Caffeine vs Water.

Caffeine Clock: best free, offline option

Caffeine Clock models both absorption and half-life, with a personal half-life you can adjust, and shows a live curve and countdown on the dashboard or a Home Screen widget. Set a target bedtime and it lets you know early if you're likely to still be too caffeinated. It has 200+ drinks plus custom ones, a daily limit, Apple Health sync, and CSV or JSON export. It holds 4.7 stars from 27 ratings.

Its privacy label says the developer collects no data, and it works fully offline with no account. It's free with ads; removing them is a one-time purchase.

Good for: a free, private curve and bedtime alert. Keep in mind: the App Store lists it for iPhone only, with no Apple Watch app. Full comparison: Caffeine Clock vs Caffeine vs Water.

Waterllama: a water tracker that also logs caffeine

Waterllama is primarily a hydration app, and a very popular one: 4.9 stars from about 162,000 ratings, Editors' Choice, a 2022 App Store Award and an Apple Design Award finalist spot. It tracks 150+ beverages, calculates a water goal from weight, activity and weather, syncs water and caffeine to Apple Health, and has a Watch app, widgets, Control Center controls and Shortcuts.

Good for: people who mainly want to drink more water and like a playful design. Keep in mind: it logs caffeine amounts, but its listing doesn't describe a caffeine curve or bedtime estimate. Full comparison: Waterllama vs Caffeine vs Water.

Other water apps are adding caffeine features too. WaterChamp, a new app launched in August 2026, lists a caffeine half-life curve and a "last chance for coffee" reminder, and WaterMinder logs caffeine with a suggested daily limit. We compare them in water tracker apps that track caffeine.

What about sleep apps like Rise?

RISE (4.7 stars from about 70,000 ratings, Editors' Choice) is a sleep-debt and energy app, not a caffeine tracker: its listing focuses on sleep debt, circadian rhythm and habit reminders, and doesn't mention caffeine logging. It's a yearly subscription after a 7-day trial. If sleep is your main goal, a sleep app and a caffeine tracker can work side by side through Apple Health. Full comparison: Rise vs Caffeine vs Water.

Which caffeine tracker app should you choose?

Whichever you pick, every app gives estimates. None can measure the caffeine in your body; they apply average or personal half-lives to what you log.
