The Best Water Tracker App With Caffeine Tracking (2026), Compared Honestly

Which water tracker app tracks caffeine too? We checked Waterllama, WaterMinder, WaterChamp, Plant Nanny and Hydro Coach for caffeine, sleep and Apple Watch.

The short answer

  • Most popular water tracker app with caffeine: Waterllama. 4.9 stars from about 162,000 ratings; logs each beverage's caffeine and syncs it to Apple Health.
  • Most configurable, and on Android: WaterMinder. Caffeine per drink, a suggested daily caffeine limit, nutrients and backups.
  • Newest with a caffeine curve: WaterChamp. Caffeine half-life curve and a "last chance for coffee" reminder; iPhone and Android, no Watch app yet.
  • Water apps that don't list caffeine: Plant Nanny and Hydro Coach log coffee and tea as drinks but don't list caffeine amounts.
  • For sleep: Caffeine vs Water (our app, launching soon) warns before a drink that would leave too much caffeine at bedtime and keeps your water goal on the same screen.

Most water tracker apps were built to answer one question: have I had enough to drink today? When they add caffeine, it's usually as a number attached to a drink. That's fine for keeping a daily total. But if you want a hydration app that tracks caffeine because you care about sleep, what matters is how much caffeine is still active at bedtime, and that depends on when you drank it.

A note on bias: we make Caffeine vs Water, so we're biased. Here's how we checked: every other app's features, prices and ratings below come from its US App Store listing or official website, as of September 2026. If a listing doesn't mention a feature, we say "not listed", not "doesn't have". Our app isn't out yet, so it has no ratings and no announced price.

Caffeine vs Water: best for coffee drinkers who care about sleep

The other apps here are water apps that count caffeine as a property of a drink. Caffeine vs Water models caffeine's effect on tonight's sleep and keeps water on pace alongside it. It's our app, so weigh this accordingly.

It's 3:40 pm and you're about to order a grande Pike Place (310 mg). At a typical 5.5-hour half-life, about 127 mg would still be active at an 11 pm bedtime, against a 50 mg target. Caffeine vs Water asks before you log it: "Log anyway", "Log a decaf instead" or Cancel. It also shows "You can still have ~X mg" right now, a last-coffee time that moves as you log, and a day planner to test drinks before you have them. Half-life presets cover smoking, the pill, pregnancy and "hits me hard", and bedtime can come from Apple Health sleep.

On the water side, it fits a goal to your weight (33 ml per kg) plus activity and hot-weather settings, counts every drink's volume, coffee included, and can remind you to pair a strong coffee with a glass of water as a habit. It has an Apple Watch app, widgets, a Live Activity, Control Center controls and Siri. No account, no ads, no network calls.

Keep in mind: it's iPhone and Apple Watch only, English only, has no challenges or data export, and isn't out yet.

WaterChamp: newest, with a caffeine curve

WaterChamp launched in August 2026 and is the closest to our approach. Its listing describes a live hydration level that drains between drinks, a caffeine curve tuned to your half-life that shows what's left at bedtime, and a reminder when you're reaching the last cup that still clears before bed. Each drink carries its own hydration value, caffeine and calories, and its website adds alcohol tracking. It reads workouts and sleep from Apple Health to adjust your goal.

Good for: Android users, or anyone who wants a caffeine curve free today. Keep in mind: the projected caffeine curve and full history need Pro, its website says the Apple Watch app is planned after launch, and it has 9 ratings so far. Its listing doesn't describe a warning before a drink or a decaf swap.

Waterllama: the most loved water app

Waterllama has 4.9 stars from about 162,000 ratings, an Editors' Choice, a 2022 App Store Award and a 2022 Apple Design Award finalist spot. Its beverages carry hydration and caffeine values, and it syncs water, caffeine and dietary energy to Apple Health. You get 140 characters to fill, 10+ challenges, streaks, recaps, an Apple Watch app, widgets and Control Center controls. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro and Apple Watch, in 22 languages.

Good for: anyone who needs fun to stick with a habit. Keep in mind: its listing doesn't describe a caffeine curve or bedtime estimate. Full comparison: Waterllama alternative.

WaterMinder: the configurable veteran

WaterMinder has been on the App Store since 2013 and holds 4.7 stars from about 34,000 ratings and an Editors' Choice. Its developer's blog explains its caffeine tracking: turn it on, add caffeine to drinks or custom cups from a database or by hand, and it suggests a daily limit and syncs caffeine to Apple Health. It also tracks up to 17 nutrients, offers backup and restore, and runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, Apple Watch and Android.

Good for: power users and people on more than one platform. Keep in mind: the listing says it contains advertising, and its privacy label lists some data used to track you. Full comparison: WaterMinder alternative.

Plant Nanny: cute, but caffeine isn't listed

Plant Nanny, from SPARKFUL, has 4.7 stars from about 106,000 ratings. Every glass you drink waters a digital plant, and you unlock more plants as you keep the habit. It has an Apple Watch app, widgets and Apple Health sync for hydration. Its listing doesn't mention caffeine, and it contains ads unless you subscribe.

Good for: motivation through gamification. Not for: caffeine tracking.

Hydro Coach: simple, with hydration factors

Drink Tracker by Hydro Coach lets you log water, tea, coffee and juice with a hydration factor per drink, and has an Apple Watch app, Apple Health sync, 35 languages and an Android version. Its listing doesn't mention caffeine amounts, and it contains ads. (A different app, "Hydro Coach - Hydration App" by another developer, also doesn't list caffeine.)

Good for: a straightforward water log across iPhone and Android. Not for: caffeine tracking.

Which water tracker app with caffeine should you choose?

Frequently asked questions

Which water tracker app tracks caffeine?

Waterllama, WaterMinder and WaterChamp all record caffeine per drink and sync it to Apple Health. WaterChamp also shows a caffeine curve. Caffeine vs Water, launching soon, adds a bedtime estimate with a warning before a drink that would push you over.

Is there a hydration app that tracks caffeine for sleep?

Yes. WaterChamp and Caffeine vs Water both estimate how much caffeine will be left at bedtime. Caffeine vs Water also asks before you log a drink that would break your bedtime target and offers a decaf swap.

Does coffee count toward my water intake?

Yes. In a 2014 study, four cups a day hydrated regular coffee drinkers as well as the same amount of water. Water doesn't cancel out caffeine, though; your liver clears it at its own pace. More in does coffee dehydrate you.

Can I use two apps for water and caffeine?

You can, but let only one of them write each type of data to Apple Health, or your totals will be counted twice.

Which water tracker with caffeine works on Apple Watch?

Waterllama and WaterMinder have Apple Watch apps today. Caffeine vs Water will launch with one, including complications. WaterChamp's Watch app is planned.
