Where Caffeine vs Water is different

It answers "can I still have one?" in milligrams

It's 3:40 pm and you're in the Starbucks line. You had a coffee at 8 am and you're in bed by 11 pm. Caffeine vs Water already knows the morning coffee will leave about 15 mg at bedtime, so it shows "You can still have ~85 mg". A grande latte is 150 mg, which would leave roughly 76 mg at lights-out. If you log it anyway, the app asks first: "Log anyway", "Log a decaf instead", or cancel. The same check runs on Apple Watch and through Siri, and you can simply ask "Can I still have coffee in Caffeine vs Water?"

HiCoffee 6.0 added its own warning for drinks that may exceed your daily or bedtime limit, so both apps now step in before a bad drink. The difference is the answer you get: a specific milligram amount that still fits, and a decaf swap in the same tap.

Your last-coffee time moves as you drink

Instead of a fixed "no coffee after 2 pm" rule, Caffeine vs Water shows the latest time a regular 95 mg coffee still leaves you under 50 mg at bedtime, counting what you've already had. In the example above that's about 2:50 pm, and it shifts every time you log. You can get a reminder 30 minutes before it, and your bedtime can come from Apple Health sleep (the median of your last 14 nights). The 50 mg line is our target, based on sleep studies showing that caffeine late in the day cuts total and deep sleep; see when to stop drinking coffee before bed for the research.

Plan tomorrow's coffees before you drink them

The day planner lets you add the drinks you expect to have (or repeat a plan daily) and see bedtime caffeine before any of them happen. A planned drink that would break your target is flagged, and optional alerts come with "Log it" and "Skip" buttons. It's a what-if tool for the afternoon meeting you already know is coming.

Caffeine and water in one place

HiCoffee's developer keeps water tracking in a separate app, HiWater. Caffeine vs Water puts a live caffeine curve and a water goal on the same screen. The goal starts from your weight (33 ml per kg) plus the activity and hot-weather settings you choose, and every drink's volume counts toward it, coffee included. After a strong drink it can remind you to pair a glass of water, as a habit rather than a fix. (Background: what counts as water intake.)

Private by design, with no analytics at all

HiCoffee's privacy label lists usage and diagnostic data that isn't linked to you, and its privacy policy names Apple iCloud and Cloudflare as services it uses. That's a light footprint. Caffeine vs Water goes further: no account, no ads, no analytics or third-party SDKs and no network calls. Your log stays on your iPhone and in Apple Health, and the Watch syncs directly with the phone.

Where HiCoffee is stronger

Who should choose HiCoffee

Pick HiCoffee if you drink a wide range of branded coffee (especially chains outside the US and UK), use an iPad or Mac alongside your iPhone, want iCloud sync or CSV export, or prefer paying once. It's a polished, mature app and a safe choice. Our best caffeine tracker apps comparison rates it the best all-rounder.

Who should choose Caffeine vs Water

Pick Caffeine vs Water if your main question is "will this coffee wreck my sleep?", if you want water and caffeine in one app, or if you want logging to come to you: reminders at your usual coffee time (skipped if you've had caffeine in the last 2 hours), suggestions learned from your history, and an alert when you arrive at your usual café, all with a "Log it" button. It also suits you if your body clears caffeine unusually: presets cover "Hits me hard" (7.5 h), "On the pill" (10 h), "Pregnant" (12 h) and "I smoke" (3.5 h). Caffeine metabolism genuinely varies a lot between people (more in caffeine metabolism and genetics).
